Course Description

Explore the creative connection between bookbinding, illustration, and storytelling in this introductory hands-on course. Students will learn the fundamentals of book arts by designing and constructing an accordion-style handmade artist book, a versatile format that functions as both a book and an expanding visual surface. Through demonstrations and guided studio practice, students will gain an understanding of basic bookbinding techniques and how imagery, sequence, and narrative interact with the structure of the book form. Once the book is assembled, students will develop pages through drawing, painting, collage, and journaling, creating a unique visual narrative that reflects their personal ideas and artistic voice. No prior bookbinding experience is required.
