Course Description

Senior Learners is designed for mature adults, 60 years of age and older, who are also New York State residents.

Learn the basics of draping using industry dress forms. Understand how to create clothing patterns by fitting fabric around a 3D form. Gain patterns that can be turned into fully sewn garments at home and foundational draping techniques. This course will cover: a basic bodice and skirt, a princess bodice, a flare skirt, and a basic sleeve. Students will also design and execute their own creative drape.

Bring to the 1st class:

  • Dressmaker Scissors, 8"-10” (Recommended: Fiskers, Gingher, Wiss or Mundial)
  • Dressmaker Pins, 20 gauge
  • Clear Graph Plastic 2"x18" Ruler (Recommended: Westcott)
  • A Hip Curve Ruler *AND* a French Curve Ruler *OR* one Style Design Ruler (hip and french in one)
  • Style Tape: adhesive kind or twill tape non adhesive
  • Tape Measure
  • Pencils: regular #2 and a few color pencils
