Course Description

Explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting, including brush techniques, paper selection, and how to create flat and granulated washes. Learn methods for masking, making corrections, and using sgraffito like scratching through paint for texture or highlights. The course also introduces basic color theory. Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced painters.

Notes

Required supplies, please bring to the 1st class: 

  • Watercolor Brushes (suggestions: Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable / Princeton Artist Brush Co Aqua Elite 4850 Series / Blick Masterstroke Finest Red Sable) 
    • Rounds #2, #4, #6
    • Flats 1/4", 1/2", (1" is option)
  • Atleast 12 sheets of Watercolor Paper (suggestions: Canson XL Watercolor Pad, Strathmore Watercolor Pad, Arches Watercolor Pad)
    • Either size 11"x15" or 12"x18"
  • Pencil #2 and Sharpener
  • Kneaded Eraser
  • Masking Tape or White Artist’s Tape
  • Water Containers
  • Paint Palette (ceramic, plastic, or paper)
  • Paper Towels
  • Optional: Dr. Ph. Martin's Black Star India Ink, 1 oz, Black, Matte
