Course Description

This is a basic ceramics hand-building course that will introduce the fundamental methods of ceramics including wedging, pinch, coil, surface treatments, and glazing. The pieces will be glazed and fired to Cone 6.

See below for required course supplies. In-Person sections include a $40 fee for in-class supplies and materials provided (such as clay and glaze) that are not listed below.

Bring to the 1st class:

The "FIT Ceramics Class Kit SXW 180-55A" kit from The Compleat Sculptor for $36. If you would like to purchase your supplies individually (not the kit) or check if you already have them:

  • needle tool (Recommended: Xiem Stoneware Needle Tool)
  • flexible metal rib (Recommended: Kemper Metal Scraper #S4)
  • serrated metal rib (Recommended: Kemper Metal Scraper #S10)
  • very soft rubber rib (Recommended: Mudtools Red Rib #1)
  • wire tool (Recommended: Kemper Wire Clay Cutter #K35)
  • wood sculpting tool (Recommended: Kemper Wood Tool #WT11)
  • set of inexpensive brushes (Recommended: White Taklon Round & Shader Paint Brushes - 4 Piece Set)

Additional optional supplies (such as underglazes) will be reviewed in the first class.
