Course Description

Take your fashion designs to the next level in this portfolio development course. You will create a small women's wear collection while developing rendering skills and presentation formats. Projects in the course will help you create your portfolio. Leave this course being able to render your signature style on fashion forward figures. Recommended for students who are considering applying to fashion colleges. Prerequisite(s): HAR 016

Notes

See below for required course supplies.
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Pencils: HB or 2B pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • 11"x 14" tracing paper pad
  • 11" x 14" marker pad (Border & Riley layout visual bond #37 or similar, must be see-through)
  • Folder or large envelope to store supplies, swatches, and reference materials
  • Markers: Chartpak, Copic, or similar (will be discussed in detail in first class, set of 12 or 24)
  • Skin tone markers: (will be discussed in detail in first class, you can add individual choice color options)
  • Colored pencils: Prismacolor Premier color pencils:  (will be discussed in detail in first class)
  • Colorless blender (will be discussed in detail in first clas

Recommended skin tone markers:

  • Light skin tones

  • Medium skin tone

Please note: Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment. We recommend that you wait until a week before class starts to purchase supplies. You will be notified by email if cancellations occur. Instructor assignments are subject to change.

 

Prerequisites

One of the following classes: HAR016 or HMW150.

Recommendations

To waive the required pre-requisite, students need to submit 3 samples of their original work showing their skills in drawing fashion figures (croqui), basic clothing rendering techniques, and facial features. Send the images via email to precollegeprograms@fitnyc.edu with the subject line "Pre-requisite Waiver Request for HAR089."
