HAP032 - Basic Sewing for Designers

Course Description
You'll learn the basics of how to lay out and cut a pattern and sew projects such as a hooded sweatshirt, open cardigan, and/or joggers using an industrial machine, as well as how to make various seams, seam finishes, and hems . Each student will begin with the basic patterns and may customize as time permits. Additional projects can be added as the student advances within the course. *Projects and class schedule may be adjusted to reflect the abilities and pace of the students in course.Notes
ELIGIBLE GRADES: High School students entering grades 9 through 12 as of the upcoming Fall semester.

Note: Fabric will be required for this course, will be discussed on the first day of class
- Scissors- All Purpose- 8-10” (Fiskers, Gingher, Wiss or Mundial)
- Matching thread to your fabric (large spool)
- 1yd ¼” wide cotton twill tape
- 1 ½ yds. ¼” cord or ½”wide cotton twill tape for drawstring
- Fabric for pants and jacket 3 yds each
- Suggested fabrics: Sweatshirt fleece, double knits, cotton lycra (stretch, woven)
- Large safety pin
- Thimble to fit middle finger
- Dressmaker pins
- Hand sewing needles (Sharp size 7-9 is best)
- Seam ripper
- Pastel stone dressmaker chalk or fabric marking pencil/pen
- Tape measure
- Safety pins
- Clear graph plastic ruler (Westcott size 1x12, 2x12, 1x18 or 2x18)
- Notebook
- Separating zipper 24’ for sizes Xs,S and 26” for sizes M to Xl
- Pencil
