SXW410 - Learn to Sew Like a Pro II
Course Description
Using the college's industrial equipment, learn how to sew and produce a correctly finished, professional-looking piece. This intermediate course includes layout, cutting, construction, and finishing of a garment. Modifying an existing pattern, students learn to sew a streetwear-style jacket with patch pockets, cuffed sleeves, one piece collar, facings, and zip closure. Students will construct their jacket in a woven fabric such as cotton, linen, or blend. Prerequisite(s): SXW 400 or discretion of instructorNotes

**Bring to the 1st class:
- **Dressmaker Scissors- 8-10” (Fiskers, Gingher, Wiss or Mundial are the best)
- **Hand Sewing Needles, (Sharp size 7-9 is best)
- **Thimble to fit middle finger (optional, but needed for first class if purchasing)
- **Dressmaker pins
- **Seam ripper
- **Thread
- **Thread scissors
- **Wooden or Plastic Point Turner (Dritz makes one)
- **Notebook for note taking (may use phone)
Additional supplies will be reviewed in first class (wait to purchase):
- Paper scissors
- Industrial bobbin and bobbin case (optional –will discuss in class)
- Pastel stone dressmaker chalk or fabric marker (optional)
- One regular zipper and one separating zipper (will go over on first day)
- Fabric for jacket (will go over in class)
- Interfacing for jacket (optional, will go over in class)
- Tape measure
- Clear Graph plastic ruler (Westcott 2x18)
- French Curve ruler or Stying Design Ruler (optional)
- Pencils for pattern making
