Course Description

Have you ever wanted to create your own characters? Lectures, activities, and demonstrations will help you bring your characters to life! Character design, facial expressions and figure poses, turnaround drawings and model sheets—these drawing and writing skills can be used in artistic fields such as animation, comic strips, comic books, game design, toy design, fashion art, etc.

See below for the required course supplies.
  •  Drawing/sketch pad (8.5x 11 or 9x12)
  • Any kind of pencil (drawing or regular #2)
  • An eraser
  • Black ink pens or markers (fine line preferred)
  • Color media - crayons, markers or watercolor paint
  • Notebook (paper or digital) is optional (Class survey to determine availability of digital drawing tools)
    • OR  iPad, desktop or laptop equipped with drawing software: Photoshop, ClipStudio Paint, or Procreate
  • OPTIONAL RESOURCES: How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, Impact Photo reference books, Character Design Quarterly, Dav Studio (3D figure posing software)
Please note: Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment. We recommend that you wait until a week before class starts to purchase supplies. You will be notified by email if cancellations occur. Instructor assignments are subject to change.
