Course Description

Senior Learners is designed for mature adults, 60 years of age and older, who are also New York State residents.

Hand sewing has been around for thousands of years and was how every garment was made prior to the invention of the sewing machine. From historical re-enactments/living history to cosplay or theatrical productions, this course will be of interest to anyone fascinated with historically accurate sewing techniques from the 16th to the 18th century. In this multi-period course, participants will learn time-honored sewing artistry—borrowed from the old world—to create a variety of hand stitches, seams, details, and hems.
