Course Description

This 2-hour educational walking tour will explore how artwork has helped to transform and renew the west side waterfront neighborhoods of midtown Manhattan. Once semi-abandoned derelict areas, these have now become vibrant business and destination neighborhoods with the help of the power of the art industry, particularly as expressed in public sculpture and other innovative pieces. See and learn about some of the multitude of forms art can take on, and discuss how it can affect us as viewers.

Course Outline

Meet at tour start point for a guided walk through Hudson Yards, Chelsea, and the Meatpacking District. View and discuss various forms of public art on display, and consider their impact on the viewer, and their effect on these changing areas of Manhattan.
