Course Description
Juxtaposing couture and streetwear, we will deep dive into couture’s humble beginnings from House of Worth to Chanel, looking at the history of haute couture and how high fashion has evolved and adapted into a world where streetwear rules. Noting recent collaborations and intersections of streetwear designers in luxury fashion, we will come up with our own gender inclusive streetwear designs with a high fashion spin.Notes
ELIGIBLE GRADES: High School students entering grades 9 through 12 as of the upcoming Fall semester.
See below for the required course supplies.
- Pencils: 2B
- Ruler, clear flat graph (recommended Westcott Rule 12” or 18”)
- Eraser (kneaded or regular)
- Pencil sharpener
- 11 x 14 Tracing paper pad
- 11 x 14 Translucent (partially see through) marker pad (Recommended : Borden & Riley #37 or Bienfang 360)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Micron pens or similar fine point black pens
- Colored pencils: 12-set or 24-set of Prismacolor pencils (or similar brand, although Prismacolor is softer.)
- White color pencil (if not included in set)
- White gel pen
- Color markers-including colors and skin tone colors (prismacolor, copic, chartpak are great for fashion sketching, however you can use any markers for these- please look for double ended markers and be sure to have black, and a blender marker.)
- If they are participating in the sewing option of week 8 & 9 they will need:
- needles (embroidery large eye needles
- Thimble
- Thread (any color)
Recommended skin tone marker colors:
- Medium skin tone: Chartpak brand, buff color P-139
- Medium - dark skin tones: Chartpak brand, sand P-142, Mocha P-70
- Light skin tones: Chartpak brand, pale flesh P147, Copic brand, color E00
