Course Description

Learn basic painting techniques using water-based media including acrylics, watercolor, and ink. Paint from observation and reference while experimenting with a variety of painting approaches. Projects include a portrait, a scene, and several experimental pieces of your choosing. This course is recommended for students who have basic drawing experience but are beginners to using paint.

ELIGIBLE GRADES: High School students entering grades 9 through 12 as of the upcoming Fall semester.

See below for required course supplies.
  • Acrylic paints: Titanium white. cadmium red, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue, pthalo blue, alizarin crimson, mars black
  • A set of flat and round brushes (of varying sizes)
  • 1 or 2 palette knives
  • 2” gesso brush
  • Paper palette (disposable sheets)
  • Absorbent paper towels
  • Two cups or yogurt containers (the bigger the better)
  • Vine charcoal
  • 18” x 24” canvas pad
  • 3 primed canvases- 18’ x 24’ or larger
