- [Course EXD001: MFA Exhibition and Experience Design Technical Skills Certification Seminar](https://continuinged.fitnyc.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1053005): Technical Skills (EXD 001) is an intensive three-day seminar that will assist graduate students with the technical tools and software skills to be successful when they enter into the first semester as well as the third semester of the Graduate Exhibition and Experience Design Program at FIT in the fall. Graduate Exhibition & Experience Design students are required to have experience in software programs for drafting, rendering and graphics. The Exhibition and Experience Design Technical Skills Certification Seminar will provide students an overview of industry specific drafting standards, techniques and documentation formats as well as an overview of industry standard rendering software programs used for museum, tradeshow, and retail design. The seminar will be a combination of technical skills, exercises, and in-class studio work. It will familiarize students with industry standard software and explore how the software and specific techniques are used in the Graduate Exhibition & Experience Design Program and in the industry. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a certification and a digital badge in Exhibition & Experience Design Technical Skills through FIT’s Center for Continuing and Professional Studies.

You'll use muslin to develop the structure of your garment design by pinning and marking it on a dress form. From these pieces the designer creates the final sewing pattern. You'll learn how to use exposure, F/stops, shutter speeds, lighting techniques, white balance, and depth of field to create powerful and compelling images in and out of the studio. It is designed for students who have never used an SLR camera, but the coursework is also a great refresher for those who want to perfect their technical skills. You're encouraged to bring your own camera, but you're welcome to borrow one from FIT for the duration of the class.

Among the skills you will develop are pattern modification, layout, cutting, construction, styling, and finishing. Wool or similar midweight non-stretch fabric will be used to construct the blazer. Prerequisite(s): SXW 410 or at the discretion of the instructor.

- [Course SXW116: Introduction to Hand Quilting](https://continuinged.fitnyc.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=4893770): This course introduces students to traditional quilting patterns such as half square and quarter square triangles, quilting terminology, and tools such as the rotary cutter. Students learn how to design a quilt, and how to hand-stitch patchwork pieces. Hand-quilting techniques using the running stitch, and how to properly finish it with binding are explored. By the end of the course, students will have completed a wall hanging or small quilt.
- [Course UXD105: Brand Concept Development with Artificial Intelligence (AI)](https://continuinged.fitnyc.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=4893772): Explore how artificial intelligence can enhance the creative branding process in this hands-on workshop for designers, marketers, and creative professionals. Using ChatGPT, Claude, Adobe Firefly, and Adobe Photoshop, participants will learn to generate and refine creative concepts, develop effective prompts, and create an artist-inspired brand identity complete with a mood board, color palette, typography direction, logo concepts, packaging visuals, and supporting brand assets. Through project-based learning and critique, students will gain practical experience integrating AI into professional creative workflows while building a portfolio-ready brand concept and confidently presenting the role AI played in their process. Prior experience with AI is not required; basic to intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is recommended.

Students will learn the fundamentals of book arts by designing and constructing an accordion-style handmade artist book, a versatile format that functions as both a book and an expanding visual surface. Through demonstrations and guided studio practice, students will gain an understanding of basic bookbinding techniques and how imagery, sequence, and narrative interact with the structure of the book form. Once the book is assembled, students will develop pages through drawing, painting, collage, and journaling, creating a unique visual narrative that reflects their personal ideas and artistic voice. No prior bookbinding experience is required.
